Wired Ambient Probe

The pit was fine. The reading was wrong.

Same recipe, same smoker, different result. Often the problem is where the air temperature gets measured. An ambient sensor on a wireless Stick sits right beside the meat, and a cold cut pulls that reading below the real pit temperature.

A wireless probe's ambient sensor beside a cold brisket reads 180°F while the smoker is set to 250°F

Ambient next to cold meat

Cold meat acts like a heat sink. You see the air beside a cold brisket, not the air it's cooking in.

The Wired Ambient Probe clipped at grate level beside a brisket reads 246°F with the smoker set to 250°F

Ambient at the grate

The Wired Ambient Probe clips at grate level, where the food actually cooks. That's the pit number to trust.

At the grate

Reads the pit where the food cooks.

The gauge on your lid reads the air up near the top of the cooker. The Wired Ambient Probe reads at the grate, right beside your meat, and the app shows it next to the meat temperature.

  • Reads up to 572°F (300°C), accurate to ±0.9°F up to 212°F
  • Feeds pit alerts and the cook-time estimate
  • It will differ from the lid gauge, which sits higher up
  • Shown with Blow added: the probe then plugs into Blow, which links to the hub
What's in the set

Wired Ambient Probe

Reads the pit at the grate, held by the grate clip. Plugs into the hub on a 1 m cable and runs on its power, no battery.

V Forge WiFi Hub

V Forge WiFi Hub

Charges the Stick, extends Bluetooth range, sends the cook over your WiFi and connects the Wired Ambient Probe. Runs while charging, so plug in for long cooks.

In the box: V Core Stick, V Forge WiFi Hub, Wired Ambient Probe, grate clip, USB-C charging cable, quick start card and manual. The 2, 3 and 4 Stick versions add a V Core Set per extra Stick: V Core Stick, V Charge Stack, three colour rings.

How it works

A long cook, start to finish.

Set it up once. The app watches the meat and the pit together.

  1. A brisket on a smoker grate with a Stick in the meat and the Wired Ambient Probe clipped beside it

Stick it in. Clip it on.

Push the Stick into the meat. Clip the Wired Ambient Probe to the grate over indirect heat, off the metal, and plug it into the hub.

  2. The V Forge WiFi Hub mounted on a side-table leg beside a kamado, the Wired Ambient Probe cable running from the hub into the cooker

    Plug in and walk away.

Park the hub nearby and plug it in; it runs while charging. Over WiFi, your phone can be anywhere with internet.

  3. V Forge WiFi Hub with a Stick docked and the Wired Ambient Probe, beside a phone showing a smoked brisket cook: meat at 183° against a 203° target and the pit at 245° against 250°

Watch the meat and the pit.

The app shows meat and grate side by side, predicts the finish with CookTime™, and alerts you at your target or if the pit temperature drifts out of range.

  • Joins 2.4 GHz WiFi networks (WPA2 and WPA3-Personal)
  • Runs while it charges: plug it in by the pit
  • Tracks up to 8 Sticks in the app, like every V Series base
Room to grow

Monitor up to 8 Sticks at once.

The V Forge WiFi Hub tracks up to 8 V Series Sticks in the app at the same time. That's how many it reads, not how many it charges. Add a cut with a V Core Set; its V Charge Stack keeps the new Stick charged.

Ready for Blow

This set's hub runs Blow, the fan. Add it any time and the four parts work together to tend the fire:

  • The Stickreads the meat.
  • Wired Ambient Probereads the pit at the grate.
  • V Forge WiFi Hubdecides how much air the fire needs.
  • Blowfeeds the fire air.

Fitting Blow: kamado, no drilling. Kettle, bullet smoker (WSM) and drum: clips into an existing air opening if your cooker has an accessible one, otherwise one 1¼" hole with a flat surface behind it. Charcoal only.

Questions

Quick answers.

V Forge, V Prime or V Duo?

V Forge: a Wired Ambient Probe reads the air at the grate, and the hub can run Blow. V Prime: one Stick that also reads the air around the meat, plus WiFi. V Duo: two Sticks and a screen on the base. Compare all sets →

Where do I put the Wired Ambient Probe?

At grate level, over indirect heat where the food sits, not straight over the coals. Keep the tip off the grate bars and other metal. It will differ from the lid gauge, which sits higher up.

Does it work on my grill, smoker or oven?

Yes, all of them. Keep the Stick out of direct flame.

How long does the battery last?

The Stick: 50+ hours per charge, depending on signal rate. A 5-minute quick charge gives about 4 hours, 10 minutes about 9. The hub: about 14 hours in use, and it runs while charging over USB-C.

Do I need WiFi?

No. The Stick talks to the app over Bluetooth 5. WiFi is what lets the hub put the cook on your phone when you're away (2.4 GHz, WPA2 and WPA3-Personal).

How far can I be from the smoker?

Keep the hub within about 6 ft of the Stick; closer is better. Sealed smoker walls, a closed oven and foil-wrapped meat all weaken Bluetooth. Your phone gets the cook over WiFi, wherever you are.

Does it work with Blow?

Yes. Blow, the fan, plugs into this hub, which runs it. Charcoal cookers only. Add Blow, the fan →

Can I add more Sticks later?

Yes. Any V Series Stick works with this hub, and the app tracks up to 8 Sticks at once. The V Core Set is the easy way to add a cut.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

The Stick, yes. The hub is not dishwasher safe.

I own an older MeatStick. Does this work with it?

The app supports every MeatStick generation. V Series Sticks charge and connect through V Series bases and hubs; a MeatStick 4 or Chef Stick can use a V Series base to extend its range.

What are the returns and warranty terms?

Unused products can be returned within 30 days for a refund (shipping not refunded). Start with an RMA from support@themeatstick.com. 1-year warranty from purchase covers defects in materials and workmanship. Orders are normally processed within 1 to 2 business days. Report anything missing or damaged in shipment within 2 business days of receipt.

I can monitor the meat and the smoker temps from anywhere in the house!

I admit to being an amateur when it comes to smoking meat. I've done pork shoulders, but haven't been brave enough to smoke anything expensive like a brisket yet. Anyway, this is a big step up from the thermometer I was using before, where I had to go out and stick it in the meat periodically. This lets me put the probe in the meat, and another in the smoker.

Then I can monitor the temperatures from the comfort of my living room. It's sooooo much easier! I double checked it the first couple of times with my instant read, and it was accurate.

Accurate, Reliable, and a Great Value

I switched over from some of the more well-known brands to give this one a try, primarily because I wanted WiFi capability along with wireless probes and I have been very impressed. Setup was straightforward, and the Bluetooth connection has worked flawlessly. The WiFi connection occasionally gives me a low-connectivity alert, but importantly, it has never actually lost contact.

I have consistently been able to monitor my temperatures through both WiFi and Bluetooth without an issue. The app was straightforward and easy to use. Accuracy was one of my biggest concerns, so I tested both probes against my trusted instant-read thermometer. Both were spot on.

I have used other MeatStick wireless products before, and I really appreciate not having wires running around the grill or having to juggle wired probes when pulling meat off the smoker. Wireless probes are also a huge advantage when using a rotisserie. One of the features that convinced me to try this model was the upgraded ambient temperature probe, and it has been well worth it.

In my experience, probes that measure ambient temperature from a sensor located at the end of the meat probe can give misleading readings because that sensor is sitting only an inch or two away from a large piece of meat. The air immediately surrounding the meat can be considerably cooler than the actual ambient temperature of the smoker.

Having a better solution for monitoring ambient temperature is a has been a nice upgrade. After multiple cooks, I think these probes would work equally well for an experienced pitmaster or someone just getting into smoking and grilling. Compared with similar probes I've owned, this the definitely the best bang for the buck.

In short, it's a high-quality product that reliably does exactly what it's supposed to do. Accurate wireless probes, dependable connectivity, unlimited range, and excellent value. I could not be happier with this product and highly recommend it.

The MeatStick V was great - the Forge makes it even better

After having a great experience with the standard MeatStick V, I was interested to see how much the MeatStick V Forge and its dedicated ambient temperature probe would add. After testing it with American Wagyu ribeyes on my Recteq DualFire 1200, I came away even more impressed.

For context, I own and have experience using probes from Pit Boss, ThermoWorks, ChefsTemp, and ThermoPro, so Ive had plenty of opportunity to compare accuracy, connectivity, durability, and overall usability. The six temperature sensors remain one of my favorite features of the MeatStick V.

Instead of relying on a single measurement point, I can monitor temperatures throughout the probe and focus on the lowest internal reading. This has worked extremely well for everything from a 10-pound bone-in prime rib to chicken drumsticks, where single-sensor probes can be difficult to position accurately.

It worked equally well with the Wagyu ribeyes, giving me much more confidence in hitting the doneness I wanted. The biggest advantage of the Forge is the dedicated ambient temperature probe that plugs into the base. During my cook, its readings tracked very closely with what my Recteq DualFire was set to.

I really like having an independent measurement of the actual cooking environment near the meat rather than relying solely on the grills built-in sensor. Being able to monitor ambient temperature alongside the MeatSticks multiple internal readings makes the entire system feel much more complete, particularly for long smoking sessions. Durability has also been excellent.

Ive exposed the MeatStick V to open flames on both low and hot sides of my smoker without any issues. Any discoloration cleaned off easily, and accuracy wasnt affected. Wireless performance has been equally reliable. I havent experienced signal drops from the base, especially when connected through WiFi.

The bases strong magnet is another small but very useful feature, allowing it to securely attach directly to my pellet hopper. Overall, the MeatStick V Forge takes everything I liked about the MeatStick V and makes it an even more complete cooking system.

The six-sensor design, excellent wireless performance, durability, magnetic base, and now the dedicated ambient probe provide an impressive amount of useful information without making the system complicated to use. Having used several competing probe systems, the MeatStick V Forge has become one of my favorites.

When youre cooking something like American Wagyu, being able to confidently monitor whats happening both inside the meat and around it is exactly what I want from a wireless thermometer. Highly recommended for any grilling setup!
