Convenient and easy to use - accurate internal temperature

I bought this MeatStick set as an early Christmas present to myself. My first impressions when opening it, the case it comes with is nice. It looks like there are some empty slots if you purchase more MeatSticks. It comes with 2 thermometers. One has a completely black end and the other is black with 2 red rings around it so you can tell them apart (see pictures). When I had to charge it, I was surprised to see that it needed AA batteries to charge the thermometer instead of using a plug in USB cable. I ended up using some rechargeable AA batteries for this. At first I was annoyed at this setup but then I realized when you start a cook, you need to have the meatstick in the charger, hit the button, and then take it out of the charger to initialize it for a cook. So if you're outside preparing to do a long smoke and you're about to put the thermometer in, having the charger attached to an outlet and then going to fetch the thermometer from there is really inconvenient compared to a completely mobile charger. Setting up the wifi bridge was a breeze - the only thing I had to do was pick the wifi network to join, which was nice that the app actually asked. I use a separate network for my smart devices (just for that extra layer of separation). Other smart devices I've set up in the past just use whatever wifi network your phone was connected to without asking. I had no issues at all with the range no matter where I was in my house since I was using the wifi bridge. I had no issues at all with the range no matter where I was in my house since I was using the wifi bridge. I cooked ribeye steak 2 different times to make sure both sticks were working. I'm not sure how accurate the ambient temperature sensor is but the internal temperature is definitely accurate as it matched up to what my thermapen was telling me. I usually use my cast iron for steaks but this time around I opted to do reverse sears in my Matfer carbon steel pan. Since I have a toddler running around touching everything he can, this wireless thermometer was great in that I wouldn't have to open the oven to check the consistency of the steak and there were no wires for my little guy to pull. At 125 degrees internal temperature, I took the steaks out of the oven and put it on the stove top to sear it and baste it. All in all, really simple to use. No issues as of yet. Will try on something with a longer cook time next time around as reverse searing takes less than an hour.

Excellent wireless meat thermometer for the data driven chef

I purchased this gift for my husband, who is an avid griller and chef. We’ve owned numerous meat thermometers over the years, but never one that is truly wireless. Set-up was fairly easy to set up, though getting it connected to the network took a few reboots, but once we got it set up, it worked flawlessly. The app, once connected, was incredibly intuitive, and helpful in both set up and use. Aside from the wireless functionality which allows you to see the exact temperature of your roast without opening the oven and losing heat every time you do so, the app offers so much more. In addition to the current temperature of meat, it tells you your ambient oven temperature (which if you are a serious baker or chef is not always accurate with the dial), the meat temperature, and the exact time in, and extra time needed to get to your desired level of doneness. My husband is a great chef to begin with but our leg of lamb came out at a perfect medium rare! Because you can leave the thermometer in even after it’s out, we were able to monitor the temperature of roast as it was resting and knew exactly when it was perfectly cooked. Also the wireless bridge means that on a slower longer roast or smoke, we can leave the house.

    PERFECTION!!

I ordered this WiFi bridge /2 MeatSticks set through the website with a discount. Charged each MeatStick overnight. Rib roasts were on sale for Easter weekend, so tested it out on a 2" bone-in ribeye made for two. Hooked the bridge to an external power supply, followed the directions in the app for connecting the bridge and MeatSticks...no problem, and set it up on a table next to my Weber. Smoked the salt/pepper rubbed ribeye @225 with lump and mesquite for about an hour until 110, then reverse seared over hot coals until 130. Tented with foil and let rest for 10 minutes. PERFECTION!! I only took it up to about 400, but the ceramic/ambient end of the thermo held up great. I'll try closer to 500 next time and report back if any problems. I've been using the Weber iGrill2 for years and have loved it, but that will be my backup now. Can't wait to do some rotisserie!

The MeatStick does the job it’s meant to do

My wife and I mostly bake, as such, we put it through various measurement scenarios. We made hamburgers and buns, custard buns, and shokupan (Japanese milk bread). Hamburgers and buns: Using the MeatStick, we measured water temperature to activate yeast. While not the best use of the technology, it performed well here since it was quicker to measure than our manual food thermometer. We then stuck the MeatStick up to the hilt through the middle of a hamburger patty and threw it on the grill. This is what it was really designed for and it worked admirably. The app notified us 5 degrees before and at our preset temperature. Our hamburger patties turned out just right, medium and still juicy. Custard buns: This was outside of the specs of the product, but we tossed the MeatStick into a small saucepan and submerged it completely with some milk and cooked it. It performed perfectly in this scenario. We also tried using the MeatStick to measure the cooling of the custard even though it wasn’t meant for this. We placed it up to the hilt in the middle of the custard and put it in the fridge with a lower temperature setting. It turned off after 30 minutes due to no heat source. As expected, it’s not meant for measuring decreasing temperatures. Shokupan (Japanese milk bread): We used the MeatStick to measure temperature for a starter dough for the tong zhang method of baking and it performed very well. We also tested it in the oven by sticking it into the dough after proofing. We wanted to keep an eye on the internal temperature of the bread. Unfortunately, because we used a pullman loaf pan and put a lid on before placing it into the oven, the bread rose over the WiFi transmitter, and the stick disconnected from the app. As such, we didn’t manage to get an accurate internal temperature for the bread. We’ll likely try baking again, but without the pullman loaf cover next time. Overall, the MeatStick is great for what it’s meant to do, which is cooking meat, and handy for other things such as making custard and baking bread. We loved that we were able to completely submerge the thermometer. So, if you want to use it for what it’s designed to do and even some out of spec things, such as submerging in boiling liquid, it’s a well-made product for those purposes.

Easy to use, easy to clean, and great features

Bought this new kitchen gadget for myself as an early Christmas present. Happy to report I am very happy with it. The 260-foot range is perfect for when I'm cooking downstairs on the grill, or just generally wandering around the apartment building without having to constantly worry about overcooking. The app was intuitive and easy to navigate and install, so it was no surprise to be happily by the grill not long after opening the package. Roasted a 2-3 pound tri-tip in a gas grill achieving a perfect charred exterior and a rare interior. The MeatStick documentation claims a 572-degree temperature resistance for the ceramic handle, so we avoided direct exposure of the stick to the direct heat of the grill. First grilled the tri tip over direct high heat for the first half (without the MeatStick) to sear it. Placed the MeatStick once it was slow cooking in the cooler side of the grill, and just waited in front of the TV for the warning alarm. The MeatStick’s ability to check on the ambient temperature of the un-predictable grill was a great plus. The estimated “Remaining” time display took the guesswork out cooking and was spot-on. Checked the wireless range and it seemed to go pretty far before it lost the signal. The magnetic charger (also the built-in range extender) was very convenient. Second time around, we roasted a whole chicken with very positive results! The dark meat was cooked through and the white meat was not overcooked. It’s great to take the worrying out of the equation (especially since chickens are never the same size!), and enjoy a more relaxed cooking experience away from the kitchen.

    Everything gets meatsticked

I'm an experienced experimenter in the kitchen but I've never been comfortable with meats. With chicken undercooking it would be a fatal mistake and with roasts it's just difficult to get the correct level of doneness! I was looking for a good thermometer since my old one kicked the bucket. This one seemed so interesting with the Bluetooth capabilities and I decided to give it a try. Downloading the app was a breeze and it linked up quickly with the meatstick. I wouldn't say I'm the most tech savvy but I followed instructions and didn't have any issues. I first tried it on my sourdough loaf since that's more my comfort territory. I let it rise first and then stuck the meatstick it once I went out to let out the steam and let the crust harden up. There are several alerts you can set for yourself (it measures ambient as well as internal temperature, and you can even give it approximate cooking time, set an alert for a temperature near finish as well as the final temp). I knew right away when the internal temperature of my loaf was 205F and ready to come out! I then tried it on a giant piece of chicken breast. The recipe said to leave it in the 375 F oven for 25 minutes but I was oh so glad the meatstick was in there. It took a whopping 45 minutes! And I didn't have to open and close the oven door multiple times and let the precious heat and moisture get out. The result was a very juicy, perfectly cooked spinach and cheese stuffed chicken breast. Thanks to the meatstick I feel less intimidated to cook meat. New adventures to follow for Christmas!

Does the job, meat cooked right.

I typically use handheld meat thermometers for whenever I cook meat, so its nice to be able to have a hands free version. I tried a recipe where I bake kalbi ribs, oven recipes are particularly inconvenient for handheld thermos and where the meatick shines. There is a specific notch on the stick where the sensor is, so despite how thin the kalbi is, it was easy to position the MeatStick where it could read it. The app setup was a bit confusing, but eventually I got it to work. I wish this interface and process was better. Hopefully over time they provide interface improvements. As of now it was successfully able to notify me when my meat was about to get overcooked. Make sure you insert the meat stick into the charger in the correct direction, it wont charge if you put it the wrong way and its not visually obvious which way it goes in.
